  • Senior management and teaching experience in education in FE and HE:-
    • Director of Education, Faculty of Health and Education Manchester Metropolitan University, 2017-date
    • Director of Undergraduate Affairs, School of Psychological Sciences, University of Manchester (2005-2009).
    • Lecturer in Education Studies and Head of Secondary Initial Teacher Education at Liverpool Hope University, (previously course leader for the Professional Qualification for Ofsted School Inspectors (PQSI) 2015- 2016).
  • E-tutor on the prestigious Manchester Leadership Programme at the University of Manchester for many years until 2015.
  • For many years associate lectureships in Education held at Edge Hill University and Manchester Metropolitan University.
  • Principal examiner in Psychology for a major examining board for some years.
  • Psychology examining and moderating experience at a senior level for a number of examination boards, both UK and international.
  • Consultancy background with one of the 'big five' firms of accountants and management consultants.
  • Teaching experience at all levels from GCSE to Masters level in Education and in Psychology and related areas.
  • Many INSET and training courses for teachers successfully developed and delivered over a number of years.
  • Schools and colleges advised on a number of issues including preparation for OFSTED, staff management issues and raising achievement.

I am an education professional who is a  researcher in education as well as a professional teacher educator,  lecturer, trainer and consultant. If you are looking for a co-researcher in Education, someone to share ideas or good practice with, or if you are a school or college looking to work with an education professional in developing research projects or CPD, then please do get in touch. 

My work as an experienced teacher, lecturer and trainer  in Education, Education Studies and in Psychology and Sociology, as well as my background in assessment, continuing professional development (CPD)  and  consultancy  gives me the ideal background to work in education studies, teacher education and education research.  

My research interests

My research and other interests include disadvantage, inclusion and inclusive pedagogies, professional identity, teacher identity, gender and disadvantage, professional development in teachers, reflective practice & reflexivity. 

I hold a doctorate (EdD) in Education from the
University of Manchester,  Manchester Institute of Education.

Together with a number of EdD colleagues I have also conducted research into the changing professional identity of professional doctorate students.
